Bengalis love for the 'Pithe Puli' season

In Bengal, people love to have different types of cuisines based on their occasions, seasons, tastes and variety. The pithe puli season comes in the winter season during the time of Poush parbon or Poush sankranti. It is a festival celebrated in West Bengal, Bangladesh, Assam, Odisha etc. to mark the beginning of new harvest season for bountiful crops throughout the year.

              Bengali households prepare various sweet delicacies like pithe, patishapta, payesh, dudh puli along with savouries like peas kachori, aloo dum, soru chakli, ranga alur pithe, etc. to enjoy a lovely family eating time. Pithe are of different types but their ingredients like nolen gur, khejur gur, rice flour, milk, coconut, etc. are somewhat common. Few types of pithes are : 

Patishapta : Patishapta is the most delicious pithe which is made using rice flour and sooji staffed with khoya kheer or jaggery coconut mixture.

Bhapa pithe : Bhapa piche is basically steamed pithe made with gur,lcoconut and rice flour.

Chakli Pithe : Chakli pithe is like a different version of appam. It is a super thin layer of soru chakli served hot with jaggery syrup or kheer.

Dudh Puli : The traditional dudh puli is made with fresh jaggery and coconut. The rice flour coated steamed puli can be eaten as steamed or can be dipped in thickened sweet milk to have it as dudh puli.

Nolen gurer payesh :  The Nolen gurer payesh is a winter dhamaka as it can be made with fresh nolen gur during the winter time only. It has an earthy excellent smell because of the gur which tastes heavenly on the pallette.

              Pithe is basically a traditional homemade recipe of Bengali households. Nowadays, they are also available in various sweet shops and food festivals. However, they cannot beat the aroma, taste and authenticity of the homemade traditional ones.
